First images from Sentinel-3A
After 2 weeks from successful launch into orbit, Sentinel-3A sent first images of the Earth.
European satellite Sentinel-3A was launched on 16th February 2016. First image was taken on 29th February and shows Svalbard archipelago in the Arctic Ocean. The same day, Sentinel-3A took images of the west coast of the USA and one day later, part of north-west Africa and the Iberian Peninsula. All images were taken by OLCI instrument (Ocean and Land Colour Instrument), which was as a first instrument turned on onboard Sentinel-3A. The images were recorded in 21 spectral bands, they have 300 m of maximal ground resolution and a swath of 1270 km.
