„Vistula river in Crisis Management: flood evacuation” – theme lecture, workshop for the youngest and decision-making game at the premises of Crisis Information Centre SRC PAS.
During the day, CIK specialists presented to almost 40 participants of the Festival, Polish crisis management, rescue and civil protection system, as well as the ways remote sensing and aerial satellite systems can support CM.
The lecture in a form of multimedia presentation, was concerning practical issues in managing activities in times of crisis. The public administration tasks as well as tasks of other actors involved in crisis response were highlighted. CIK presented examples of practical activities that use various satellite techniques and new technologies in command support and rescue operations management. The lecture ended with a vivid panel of questions and answers.
Decision-making game called Flood and Evacuation, allowed participants to be in role of the Municipal Crisis Management Center members and managers of the point of gathering, registration and evacuation of population. The game included among others: planning of the temporary accommodation for displaced people and involvement of the local community (so-called spontaneous volunteers) in rescue actions. Particular attraction was the mutual remote co-ordination of activities between participants using radio communication.
For the youngest participants of the Festival, there were organized workshops on rescue measures during the flood situation in the city and following evacuation of the population and animals. Moreover, events such as fire at the chemical warehouse or a terrorist threat were discussed. Participants could gain the basic ability to read and interpret maps and aerial photographs.
