Alarm sirens in Mazovia

Between 13th and 15th October there were RENEGADE-SAREX 155/II exercises, organised by the Armed Forces Branches Operational Command. Scope of the exercises was to examine readiness of national defence institution entities and civil entities to prevent terrorist threat in air and conducting search and rescue activities on Polish soil.

One of the most important elements in the exercise was examination of alarm system. During the exercise in many polish cities there was three-minute long, modulated sound of sirens. Cancelling the alarm was by continuous sound also three minute long. Press communicate about alarm sirens try-outs was send to local and regional mass media and to Regional Alarm System 24 hrs before the sirens were turned on.

Alarming civilians in case of a threat is responsibility of civil defence commander on particular area. In voivodship, voivode is responsible, in city, governor or mayor. Sirens are technical element of alert system and are switching on only in case of extreme threat. At least once a year it is necessary to check the system, often it happens on August 1st, in purpose to celebrate Warsaw Uprising at the same time.
