Trial in Sweden - COLLARIS
The exercises included live actions and virtual simulations aimed at improving cooperation among various emergency services. The live exercise scenario was focused on an apartment fire, requiring the involvement of several different organizations. In the afternoon, a virtual simulation of a war/grey zone scenario was conducted, which included a terrorist attack and the release of a gang criminal at Skövde Hospital.
During the trial exercises, valuable insights were gained regarding crisis management and the use of drones. The readiness and importance of drones in early-stage incident assessment were demonstrated, as well as the need for collaboration among various actors.
Findings from the Trial:
- the need for routine cooperation among the involved entities,
- drones enable rapid situational overviews, aiding in better decision-making and response planning during incidents,
- combining virtual and live exercises offers comprehensive training, allowing safe simulation of complex scenarios and practical experience.
Recommendations for the future arising from these exercises:
- develop standardized airspace coordination procedures - effective management of airspace between drones and manned aircraft is critical to avoid collisions and ensure coordinated responses,
- expand the use of virtual training platforms,
- continue exchanging experiences within EU networks like COLLARIS - sharing insights and challenges among UAS experts is invaluable for improving crisis response capabilities.
The next COLLARIS Network trials will take place in June in Innsbruck (Austria) and in the fall in Poland and Cyprus.
