Sewage in Vistula on Sentinel-2 images
On 27th and 28th August 2019 two collectors discharging sewage from left-bank Warsaw to the Czajka sawage treatment plant failed. Therefore, the discharge of wastewater from this part of the city straight to the Vistula River was started using the emergency sewage outlet at Farysa Street, north of the Maria Skłodowska-Curie Bridge. The discharge of sewage into the river averages 3 m³ per second. The preliminary, direct cause of the failure is said to be delamination of the collectors.

On 8-9 August 2019 Crisis Information Centre team conducted training on Geographical Information Systems and remote sensing for rescuers from the Jura Group of the Mountain Volunteer Search and Rescue. Two-day session took place in the Central Rescue Station of Jura Group in Podlesice, Silesian Voivodship.

Water extent maps in south-eastern Poland (new maps added on 27 May)
Intensive rainfall and storms in the period of 20-22 May 2019 contributed to water level rising and local flooding in southern Poland. Today, the Government Centre for Security (RCB) issued 2nd and 3rd degree flood warning in Śląsk, Małopolska and Podkarpackie provinces. Based on the current Sentinel-1 radar and Sentinel-2 optical images provided by the Copernicus program, the Crisis Information Centre CBK PAN developed water extent maps for the most affected areas. Some of the maps were prepared as a result of activation launched by the Podkarpackie Voivode as part of a permanent agreement between the Podkarpackie Provincial Office and CBK PAN.

On 20th of March, during the meeting of the Voivod Crisis Management Team organized as part of the national exercise of emergency services and crisis management services "PODKARPACIE 2019", was signed a cooperation agreerment between the Subcarpatian voivodship and the Space Research Center of PAS. The agreement was signed by the Governor of the Subcarpatian voivodship PhD Ewa Leniart and The Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs in SRC PAS Prof. Jolanta Nastula.

Exercise of the emergrency services "PODKARPACIE 2019"
Between 18th - 21 of March Crisis Information Center Team from the Space Research Cenbreach the dangerous substance transmission system the PAS participated in the national exerciese of emergency services and crisis management services "PODKARPACE 2019" which took place on the industrial plants area in Nowa Sarzyna (Leżajsk District). The purpose of the exercises was to improve the organization of the entities of the National Fire and Rescue System from four voivodships: Masovian, Lublin, Holly Cross (świętokrzyskie) and Subcarpathian (podkarpackie). During the exercises, the CIK team provided support for the participants of the exercises using the solutions being at the disposal of the Mobile Center for Analyzing and Preparing Satellite Data (MCS)

Exercise of the rescue services "Skansen Sanok 2018"
From 8th to 12th of October Crisis Information Center (CIK) team from the Space Research Center of PAS participated in the exercise of emergency services and crisis management services "Skansen Sanok 2018". The main theme of the event was the improvement of cooperation between the entities of the National Fire and Rescue System and other services and institutions in the area of operational activities related to the response to threats occurring in museum and historic objects. CIK carried out the tasks of the Mobile Center for Analyzing and Preparing Satellite Data (MCS).

Every summer a wave of wildfires strikes Europe, destroying hundreds of thousands of hectares of forest, causing tragic losses of life as the fires spread into populated areas and significant economic setbacks for the most affected regions. While Southern Europe suffers the most with these disasters, other parts of Europe cannot take their safety for granted, as the enormous forest fires that hit northern Sweden in the summer of 2018 demonstrate.
