Earthquake in central Italy on Copernicus EMS maps
The earthquake is probably the result of very strong earthquake of August 2016, which then hit the central regions of Lazio, Umbria, Abruzzo and Marche. As a result of the January earthquake, the largest losses were recorded in the southern part of the Abruzzo region, where the earthquake triggered snow avalanches particularly threatening nearby tourist destinations. In the village of Rigopiano a snow avalanche covered a four-star hotel. The rescue operation is ongoing.
The Copernicus EMS service is continually updated with new maps for areas affected by the cataclysm.
