Press Conference of Civil Security Hub Poland
In the first part of the event, Dr. Jakub Ryzenko, Head of the Crisis Information Centre at the Space Research Centre of the Polish Academy of Sciences, presented how CS Hub PL translates innovative satellite-based solutions into practical tools for rescue services, civil protection and crisis management. Invited guests also had the opportunity to learn about the origins of the Hub, its main objectives and plans for the coming months.
The second part of the meeting focused on the experiences of the Hub’s Partners, who supported rescue operations and crisis management efforts, among others during the 2024 floods and following the ecological disaster on the Odra River. The speakers also presented and discussed examples of geospatial analyses that had been supplied to the State Fire Service and other institutions during those events.
The panel discussion, moderated by Dr. Jakub Ryzenko, featured Brigadier General Grzegorz Borowiec (National Headquarters of the State Fire Service), Marek Kajs (Deputy Chief Inspector of Environmental Protection) and Arkadiusz Radek from ICEYE. The experts spoke about the importance of situational awareness in crisis management based on verified and up-to-date data, and shared their experience in the use of satellite technologies in operational activities. A representative of the technology provider sector highlighted the importance of structured feedback from product users in order to improve solutions and tailor them to real needs.
They were joined in the discussion by representatives of companies and institutions that, together with the Crisis Information Centre of the Space Research Centre of the Polish Academy of Sciences, co-create Civil Security Hub Poland: Monika Krzyżanowska, Business Development Director at CloudFerro, and Dr. Katarzyna Osińska-Skotak, Professor at the Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography of the Warsaw University of Technology. The conference was hosted by Łukasz Wilczyński, President of the European Space Foundation.
The meeting concluded with a Q&A session with the media and a brief networking session. Among the topics discussed were forms of cooperation between CS Hub PL, public administration and rescue services to ensure faster and more effective responses to threats such as floods or fires, as well as collaboration with technology providers to develop products that genuinely strengthen civil security.
